Adult Sunday School Classes
Come visit one of our Sunday School Classes. You may decide to drop in occasionally, just stay for a certain series, rotate between classes, or attend every week. You are welcome as much – or as little – as you choose!
The Friendship Class meets at 10:45 a.m. in Room 109 year round. Martha Goshaw is the facilitator. They are currently studying Life Change Series: The Minor Prophets, an in-depth study of the books of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, and Micah.
The Seekers meets at 9:20 a.m. in the Chapel, November through April. They have a different summer schedule. Bill Waters is the facilitator. This is a Bible study class currently studying the book of Deuteronomy as a larger study of the Pentateuch.
The Class With No Name meets at 9:30 a.m. in Room 116 year round. People in the class rotate as facilitator. This class is for those who have questions. It is a Reconciling Ministries Class of the UMC. They are currently studying Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman. This demonstrates how the gospel may be read as a manual of resistance for the poor and disenfranchised. Jesus is a partner in the pain of the oppressed and the example of His life offers a solution to ending the descent into moral nihilism. Hatred does not empower–it decays. Only through self-love and love of one another can God’s justice prevail.
The ABC Class meets at 8:15 a.m. in Room 116, January through March. Ann Russ is the facilitator. They are currently studying The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus by Adam Hamilton. Using historical information, archaeological data, and stories of the faith, Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Jesus from his baptism to the temptations to the heart of his ministry, including the people he loved, the parables he taught, the enemies he made, and the healing he brought. This is a DVD-based discussion.
