We, the United Methodist Women of Coronado Community UMC and Edgewater UMC, invite ALL of the community to join us at no cost for our annual Mission Study on Saturday, April 9, 2016, 9-12, in CCUMC’s Fellowship Hall and Music/Lecture Suite. The focus of our study together is: “The Church and People with Disabilities: Awareness, Accessibility, and Advocacy”, intending to build awareness in the Church regarding issues around disability, to call the Church to provide full accessibility to services and opportunities, and to promote advocacy for justice for people with disabilities. Unlike other categories of human experience, disability crosses all lines of gender, orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic position, age, and culture. People with typical bodies can be thought of as temporarily able-bodied because disabilities can happen at any time to anyone. Come and learn from the personal stories of members within our own congregations who have struggled with hearing and vision loss, mobility challenges, cognitive/intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental health, family issues, and long-term care-giver needs and concerns. Together, we will discuss and identify ways that our churches can do more to open the floodgate to inclusion and equality. Save the date! You won’t want to miss this!
