March 6 – Jesus, Barabbas and Pilate

Scripture: Mark 15:1-15

All throughout Lent we are using the Gospel of Mark as our scripture. Now we have come to the heart of the events unfolding. The conflict is nearing its climax and yet Jesus, who has been quite verbal is now a man of few words. They are not defensive words. No excuses or rationalizations. Calm acceptance and surrender.

Sermon: Blame and Choice. So many people with choices. So many people we can blame. We all make choices every day. Those choices, I hope, rarely put someone’s life on the line. Put yourself in the position of each and every person in the story. Barabbas, Pilate, the crowd, Jesus, the unseen disciples. Can you see yourself (maybe at other times in your life) contributing to the events? Where do you see yourself in the story today?
