March 27 – Christ the Victor
Scripture: Mark 16:1-8
All throughout Lent we are using the Gospel of Mark as our scripture. In all the gospels the first witnesses were women. In Roman court, in Jewish court, women had little standing. They could not be used as reliable witnesses. But God uses women throughout the gospel, throughout the life of Jesus to be key carriers of God’s love.
Sermon: He is not here. He is risen. Jesus told them in advance and yet some will doubt in the hours and days and weeks to come. Jesus was really dead. Not Jesus is resurrected from the dead. The power of love wins over the powers of the religious and the political. God could have used violence but instead shows this amazing unconditional love through surrender and obedience of Jesus to God’s dream. Today proves love wins.
